The Ontario government has announced a review of Occupational Illnesses, and the review includes a new 5-year strategy called Prevention Works. This new strategy “builds on the successes of the past while also creating a renewed vision and foundation for the future. Prevention Works will guide the OHS system in assessing the current landscape and provide us with the tools and direction we need to achieve our objectives and intended outcomes.” according to the website.
In other words, there are new compliance measures coming which are definitely overdue, but likely to cause a lot of extra work as the legislation is updated to be consistent with other provinces and system oversight is strengthened.
